we worked with the Savannah Baptist Center, Habitat For Humanity and Second Harvest Food Bank. i helped in the kitchen at the SBC. the lady who worked in the kitchen-Nancy-and i were buddies:) She even bought me a bag of potatoes b/c she knew that i didnt eat meat and wanted to make me some. i didnt get to know the kids as much at the SBC-but i really enjoyed doing some behind the scenes things-helping cook, serve food, organize the pantries.-it was good. At Habitat for Humanity we worked on 3 different houses. i did some painting, nailing, sweeping, sitting around. there were quite a few people at the site so it was hard to make sure everyone had jobs-therefore leaving me with nothing at times. at second harvest i stoked and organized shelves-it was actually pretty fun. we had to take some expired stuff off and then stack some new stuff up. it was fun and doubly fun working with/getting to know the cool undergrads on the trip.
the weather was also awesome-sunny and in the 60s/70s-so great for all that we did. on thursday for lunch we went to Tybee Island and ate at the beach-it was crazy windy and there were seagulls so it wasnt the most pleasant experience BUT it was SO pretty! We went to River Street and downtown Savannah for our free day on Friday. There were so many pretty squares and houses-the architecture of the houses down there is so different than up here-they were so pretty. we also checked out a super old cemetery and catholic church-both were pretty cool.
so, i really enjoyed the trip-the long drives, the people, the students, the many memories-it was awesome. it was just great to be able to take some time to serve the Lord and help others out.
now its back to real life-bills, work, homework, etc...its always so nice to forget about things for awhile..my grandma went into the hospital on friday b/c of some chest pain and tightness she was having-i was in communication with my fam much of the day and the diagnosis was back and forth with stuff and finally they decided she needed a pacemaker to just help her heart out. so it looks like tomorrow will be the operation. i guess they put it in and she can go home pretty much the next day. so..it kinda scares me-out of my selfishness i dont want anything to happen to her-but its all in Gods hands and i guess it is a pretty routine procedure. so....that has been on my mind these last few days as well....
here are some pics.....
